Determining Whether you are on a 64-bit vs 32-bit Windows Computer

You can always install 32-bit programs on a 64-bit machine  but you can never do the reverse. However if you have a choice of software and you are on a 64 bit machine it is always better to install the 64 bit version. This is how you determine whether you are on a 32-bit or a 64-bit Windows machine.

Click the start button in the lower left, and select “Computer” from the menu in the right column. When you see the screen below click System properties.

Click system Properties

Then look to system type and you will see the bit of the operating system. This one is 64-bit.
